My name is Mairead and I am a qualified Clinical Nutritionist having spent four
years studying Nutritional Science and Therapeutics
with the Irish Institute for Nutrition and Health.
I have completed my dissertation with Middlesex University
and i am working towards my MSc in Personalised
Nutrition with Middlesex University in London.
I have a passion for nutrition, wellness, weightlifting and helping
others to improve their overall health trajectory and
quality of life by means of bespoke and highly effective
nutritional plans.
MY INTENTION AS A CLINICIAN:
To bring the most recently scientifically proven nutritional
recommendations to clinical practice and use these to
provide an integrated approach. Each client’s individual
needs are assessed to provide a tailored approach rather
than using a ‘one size fits all’ template.
THE ROLE OF PERSONALISED NUTRITIAN:
The concept of personalised nutrition is not something
new or alternative. The medicinal value of food was first
acknowledged by Hippocrates several centuries ago and
has been studied ever since.
Personalised Nutrition takes a systems biology approach
to address underlying imbalances which are the cause
of the individual’s symptoms. Thoughtful and systemic
evaluation of the individual’s health history along with
Lab results (where available) are used to identify the
cause of the imbalances.
Creation and application of a personalised diet,
lifestyle plan and appropriate nutrient/supplement
recommendations (where necessary) are used to.
This patient focused approach requires the individual to
be intimately involved in their health trajectory and thus
increases the success rates of the program. It encompasses
a broad range of disciplines in order to effectively prevent,
support or manage diseases or illnesses.
WHAT CAN MY CLIENTS EXPECT?
As part of the consultation process, the individual’s
medical history will be discussed and their current health
status will be assessed. Any symptoms, along with the
needs and goals of the client will be discussed and taken
into consideration and a personalised nutrition plan is
devised on this basis.
As this is a patient centered modality, I will work closely
with the individual focusing on their unique needs.
Research has shown that due to the level of biological
variation between individuals, a ‘one size fits all’ approach
to nutrition simply does not give the same results as that
of a personalised plan. For each individual, my attention
will be focused on understanding the unique underlying
factors that may be at play.
WHAT HEALTH CONCERNS MAY BENEFIT FROM A PERSONALISED NUTRITION APPROACH?
• Digestive Issues – including constipation, diarrhea,
bloating, reflux, food allergies/intolerances,
diverticulitis
Weigh Problems – weight gain / inability to lose weight,
diabetes, sugar cravings, blood sugar imbalances
• Cardio-Vascular Health – raised cholesterol, high blood
pressure, metabolic syndrome
• Hormonal Imbalances / Women’s Health – infertility,
PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, menopause related
symptoms, recurring thrush and more
• Skin Conditions – acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea
• Mental Health & General Wellbeing – low mood,
anxiety, fatigue, poor concentration
• Autoimmune Conditions – including fibromyalgia,
chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis
and others that do not always respond easily to conventional medicine.
